There are certainly things to be said about tradition. Lots of traditions are great. The 4th of July, for example, is a great tradition, and, like most traditions, it celebrates certain values. In this case, freedom from oppression, the right to self-determination, patriotism, and liberty, among other things.
Other traditions, and values, are not so good. For example, segregation. Traditionally, whites and blacks did not go to the same schools, sit together on busses, drink from the same water fountains, etc., all out of the value of preserving the "purity" of race.
