Fortune reports that Musk promised to pay the legal bill of any Xitter user “unfairly treated by your employer due to posting or liking something on this platform.” Musk indicated there would not be a limit on the amount his flailing company would cover.
Note that the user has to be treated unfairly by their employer. Doubtful that Musk intends to apply the accepted standards of unfair found in Equal Employment Opportunity and other Labor laws. No, unfair will be in the perpetually squinty eye of the mercurial Martian wannabe.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat myself here: Musk bores me. He epitomizes the banality of evil. His personality and behavior are cribbed from late 20th century action movie villains. Alas, his actions still have far-reaching consequences because his money gives him a long reach, so it’s important to keep tabs on what he does.
And I anticipate we’ll see him fronting the bills of some particularly odious people, like the user he had replatformed after Xitter employees banned the guy for posting images of child exploitation. I also expect that he will refuse to help anyone whose views conflict with his own, so, hypothetically, if an employee of In-N-Out Burger, which recently prohibited service employees from wearing masks without medical documentation, was fired for liking or Xeeting pro-masking Xeets, I truly doubt Musk would step up to support the employee. He’d probably cheer the decision by the employer.
